Week 11

Sadly, this is the final week for this group project but I am happy that we managed to make a great game together and achieved what we set out to do.

As all of the work has been completed for this project this blog entry will be more of a reflection on the project rather than a log of work.

Firstly, as I said in the first paragraph I am happy that we were able to make a good game together, I do not think it will win any awards but I am happy with what we made and with the features that I implemented.

Reflecting on how the actual group part of this assignment went is hard as I have very mixed feelings about it. To start I would like to say how much I liked the artist in the group, he was very motivated and did his work in a timely manner to a high quality. The artist was also very good at communicating with me about his progress and talking to me when he had questions about one of his tasks.

Sadly this is where to good ends, one of the two other programmers was removed in the 2nd week of the project because he did not do anything and it was clear he could not be bothered to participate. His removal was discussed as a group and with the lecturer in charge of the module to make sure that we were all in agreement and that we were not being unfair to him.

The other programmer was just a mix of unskilled and inefficient. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as I assumed that perhaps it may take him a while to start producing good work however he consistently produced flawed code or a lack of work. To be honest it made me miss my placement year as while working there team work was vital, everyone was motivated and did good work, you could trust them to get their work done and make a good product together. Sadly all this programmer did was make me do his section of work, but later than I would have liked to as I waited for him in case he did complete tasks.

Looking back on the project as a whole I would still say it was a worthwhile experience, I learnt a lot about how the Google Play Store works for developers and made something I am proud of. The project also taught me the benefits of a good team and why they are so crucial regardless of the scale of the project you are working on.
